Site loading speed
Site loading speed is one of the key factors that help you boost conversion and save the traffic. Devellp is constantly improving the speed of site rendering to give you the best user experience. Still, there are some external factors which can affect the time it takes your site to load.
Before you begin, bear in mind that site speed may be affected by:
browser cache;
Internet connection (e.g., site may be loading slower in 3G than Wi-Fi);
device you are viewing the site on (e.g., older phones may be loading slower than newer ones);
custom codes — widgets, analytics, CSS (added both through the site settings and the embed code block in the editor);
videos and heavy images (mostly those which are placed on the home page and above the fold);
older blocks;
heavy fonts.
You can evaluate your site performance on various page speed checkers. The most popular checkers are Google PageSpeed Insights, YSlow and GTmetrix.
If the result you receive is unsatisfactory, please view the following steps below.
One of the most widespread reasons that can make an impact on your site speed is cache and cookies. Clearing cookies and cache tells the browser to start over fresh and remove all accumulated data that slow down your site or cause interruptions.
Make sure to open the site from different ISPs — for instance, from home, work, Wi-Fi, mobile internet, etc. Mind that different ISPs can have limits to the speed of the internet, which may be affecting your site.
Keep in mind that custom HTML, CSS, JS scripts can reduce the score for your site performance, so try to minify them. By optimizing your code (including removing spaces, commas, and other unnecessary characters), you can increase your page speed.
Devellp automatically optimizes the images that you add to the site. Still, bear in mind the number of images you add per page, as each of them will need time to load.
Videos from Youtube/ Vimeo may be affecting the speed significantly. We still encourage you to use them, as a video is sometimes worth a thousand words, just mind their quantity.
To improve the block performance, we are releasing new block versions which become available on your site instantly. To benefit from these updates, make sure to click on the Update button in the block settings:
We recommend to reduce the number of fonts on the site to two for the sake of keeping the design consistent and the pages lighter. If you'd like to use a heavy font, it will work best for highlighting the most important information — for example, in the headings.
Remember that custom fonts you've uploaded to the editor are a third-party code, which can significantly slow down your site's loading speed. We do not dissuade you from using them, just mind their quantity on the site.
